Can Tho is 170 km from Saigon. Since the beginning, Can Tho was already given the title Tay Do or Western Capital. It is also the meeting point of the various waterways of the Mekong Delta. Today, it has become an industrious city with big bottling companies and fish sauce factories. It is is home to 220,000 inhabitants Can Tho is a busy port capable of accomodating large ships from neighbouring countries. Hau Giang or Hau River is the main channel that passes through Can Tho. The land mass surrounding the river was developed very early so the population in this area is probably the largest in all of the Delta region. The land here is said to be the most fertile because of the deposits from the various branches of the river.

The city is bathed by dense systems of rivers, arroyos and cannels that benefit the bumper harvests, travel navigation and commercial activities. Can Tho teamed up with 4 other contiguous provinces of An Giang, Dong Thap, Hau Giang and Vinh Long to be the rice basket of Vietnam contributing more that half of nation rice production and remarkable rice exports every year. It is also the home to wide ranges of tropical fruits such as mango, durian, pomelo, etc where tourist could be deep in abundant orchards.

One of attraction in Can Tho is shopping in floating market where almost every stuff is exchanged on the river. Cai Rang, Phung Hiep are some of renowned ones those probably the most common visit stop. Yet, taking the tour along the river side of Hau River – the benefactor of Mekong River Delta, Ninh Kieu Wharf could be other wonderful alternatives.

- Ninh Kieu Wharf - located on the bank of Hau River, the wharf is the city main trade center where hundreds of boating plying the river, bringing commodities from the rest of Delta region. - Floating Markets (Cai Rang, Phung Hiep, Phong Dien) – popular tourist destinations for cruising on canals, strolling around endless green orchards and enjoying indigenous specialties of Mekong Delta region. - Binh Thuy Communal House – known in other name of Long Tuyen Ancient Temple, the house just 5 km from the center of Can Tho city. - Ong Pagoda – situated in the center of the city, has special architectural style, and has been preserved intact.Culture and history image
